Getting to know: Alix Walker, Global Brand Ambassador for Thomas Dakin Gin

On Friday 17th January at 20 Stories, we invite guests to ignite their passion for both food and drink as we welcome you to ‘Ginuary with Thomas Dakin’. The Dish caught up with from Alix Walker, Global Brand Ambassador for Thomas Dakin Gin to wet our appetite ahead of the night of botanicals.

Why should people celebrate Ginuary?

What better time to get over a hectic Christmas and relax with a dry ginuary treat or three…

Can you tell us a bit of history about the brand?

Thomas Dakin was a pioneer in quality gin back in the 18th century and his legacy lives on in our award winning gin.  This was well before Charles Tanqueray, Gordons and the major brands you know today.

What makes your gin stand out?

As you can see it looks like no other gin and tastes like no other. We have won awards for the liquid and also for the stand out label and bottle design.

What kind of botanicals can you find in there?

We use a unique mix of the finest quality botanicals from around the world.  One flavour profile we have brought back from the past is the savoury root of Red Cole aka Horseradish.

What do you recommend to serve you gin with?

With a fine tonic and a twist of orange as we use orange and grapefruit as our citrus ingredients.  Also, it goes really well in a Manc Mule of ginger beer, lime juice and Angostura bitters.

What is the best cocktail with your gin in it?

It has to be The Manchester Bee.  50ml Dakin, 25ml honey syrup (1:1 honey/water) and 20ml fresh lemon juice.  All shaken over ice and into a chilled cocktail glass and garnished with an orange wheel of course.

Join us and tantalise your taste buds with a five-course paired tasting menu carefully designed by the 20 Stories Chefs using influence from the finest botanicals in Thomas Dakin Gin.
