This January, in line with our wellbeing initiative, and in a move towards reducing group waste, we will be one of the first restaurant groups to enforce a group-wide ban on plastic across our bars. Londoners will also see most of the restaurants in the group focusing on promoting wellness and fitness for body and soul, from moderation, meditation and motivation they will be hosting mindful menus, a speaker’s series in collaboration with Seedlip – The World’s First Distilled Non-alcoholic Spirits, as well as fitness classes that will encourage Londoners to be well this 2018.
The campaign will be symbolised by a sculpture installed outside the recently launched Fiume restaurant at Battersea Power Station. CORE has been created in collaboration between Creative Debuts, D&D London, and Belu Water. The sculpture represents the depth of values shared amongst all human beings at their core.
“Made entirely out of glass water bottles, this installation aims to connect audiences, and bring attention to global water issues. Essential to all, water is life – and is at the core of all humanity.” – Calum Hall, Co-Founder, Creative Debuts.
The sculpture is made from recycled Belu glass bottles. Composed of at least 45% recycled materials, the bottles have the highest recycled content possible in clear glass in the UK. Belu donates 100% of its profits to WaterAid, helping the charity transform the lives of some of the world’s poorest communities by providing clean water, decent toilets and hygiene – an endeavour we support by serving Belu mineral water across our sites and selecting WaterAid as charity partner for the Mindful City Campaign. We will also be supporting the charity by offering an optional £1 on every bill to customers throughout January into early February, as well as a hosting a celebrity Comedy show at Old Bengal Bar. From 1 January until 13 February, £1 on every bill at D&D restaurants will go towards WaterAid’s work. Any money donated before 31 January will be doubled by the UK Government.
There will be a series of events across our restaurants aimed at increasing awareness of wellbeing. These will include talks from campaign ambassadors such as Jasmine Hemsley, James Duigan of BODYISM and Ben Branson founder of Seedlip amongst others. There will also be healthy and sustainable menus served across D&D sites, with our fish restaurants Kensington Place and Fish Market serving sustainable Blue Planet Menus. New Street Grill will focus on quality over quantity with their special Paleo menu that incorporates a proactive slant on provenance.
