Getting to know: The Rare Breed Meat Company

At D&D London we are concerned with where and how our meat is produced, because we believe that this absolutely impacts upon the food that reaches the tables in our restaurants. Our suppliers, Rare Breed share this necessity for great quality meat which has been brought up in a totally free range environment.

The Rare Breed Meat Company is owned and run by father and son Howard and George Blackwell, whose aim is to see the very best meat (from rare and traditional breeds) back on the consumers table.

We fervently believe in the quality of the meat produced from these animals that have been reared in totally free range environments and fed only on natural foods.

– Howard & George Blackwell

The Blackwell family have farmed in North Essex since the 1930s. Howard began rearing turkeys and geese in the early 1980s where he supplied butchers, and with these contacts then started rearing and fattening Gloucestershire Old Spots and Oxford Sandy and Blacks.

His business quickly developed and The Rare Breed Meat Company was created in 1995 adding other premium brands such as Colne Valley and Salt Marsh lambs, free range Blythburgh pigs, traditional breeds of cattle, quality dry cured bacon and hams, free range ducks, venison and game when in season.
