Fair Furlough

You may already be aware of the recent ruling that earnings from tips and service charge, even if properly managed in accordance with HMRC guidelines, are not eligible for inclusion in furlough pay. Restaurant staff typically are therefore only receiving some 40% not 80% of their normal earnings. We think that this is deeply unfair.

We have therefore launched a campaign #FairFurlough to lobby government to change this. Self-employed hairdressers and taxi drivers are receiving 80% of their tips in furlough pay so why aren’t waiters in restaurants receiving 80% of their tips and service charge?

These earnings reflect their regular salaries and are needed for staff to pay their bills. We want to send a clear message to employees in the hospitality industry that they are valued.

Please help us, help our staff and the hundreds of thousands of other hard working employees in UK restaurants by signing this petition.
