In conversation with: Bluebird London’s, Dante Blakeley

Name: Dante Blakeley

Position: Maître d’hôtel, Bluebird London NYC

Year’s with D&D London: One year

Favourite dish on the menu: Dover Sole. It’s light and has an amazing butter sauce that works magically with the cauliflower purée. Your senses are heightened with this dish.

Fun fact about Dante:  I LOVE to laugh. My team may find me at moments just chuckling at myself or with my guests.  I’ve always been told laughter keeps the heart, mind, and skin younger. LOL.

Personal bio:

Dante entered the hospitality field by way of the theater. His family was entrenched in song and dance, and he quickly fell under it’s spell. With a double major in Marketing and Performing Arts and growing up performing on stage, he found this helped to develop his stage presence. Being an entertainer paved the way for a career in hospitality. Music has kept him grounded; performing and releasing several musical recording albums around the world throughout the years, including: Odyssey, Be The Night, Love Conquers All, and Camera Roll to name a few.

He moved to New York City after college in 2002, and dipped his toe into hospitality with opening the Mandarin Oriental Hotel New York as their Head Maitre d’hotel and Managing Coordinator. This opened the door for him to create his own Front Door Consultancy to guide others to hotels hiring the right staff to set the appropriate tone at their front door.

Through the years he was blessed to open many restaurants and hotels in New York City including, The Mandarin Oriental Hotel New York, The Dream Hotel Downtown, Cafe CloverAgozarilili, The Ace Hotel New York and The Eventi New York.

With thousands of different dining options in the city, he strives to make the first impression count. He always trys to make my initial encounter with a guest very personal, as it is always memorable. His aim is to welcome everyone the way he would into his own home.

A warm greeting and a positive attitude might not solve the world’s problems but it can make all the difference when you need a bit of a breather from reality.

Dante says “working with D&D London is one of the best adventures to date, because each day I get to work with ‘characters’ that are passionate about their craft, I say characters because everyone is so different and unique in our own way, and it’s a magical feeling being on stage to produce a new unscripted show each day with each character in our restaurants”.
